ALL AMERICAN S'MORES "REMIX"

Updated: Jul 20, 2020

We love to celebrate, and America becoming Independent is a cause for celebration. However, so is Juneteenth so I put a little remix on this recipe due to all of the recent information that much of us are learning in regards to Juneteenth. I can celebrate both, but Juneteenth needs to be recognized also as a National Holiday too. And in fact maybe even more so because WE ALL weren't free here in the US of A until that date. And even still this country was in division for many, many years after where people still didn't feel free to roam and go where they wanted to freely. Now don't get me wrong, my two grandfathers both fought in the war and I do understand that many men and women have fought and lost their lives for this country. But we need to start recognizing that without ALL individuals in and from the country there would be no USA.

On July 2nd, 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence, and two days later delegates from the 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence, a historic document drafted by Thomas Jefferson. From 1776 to the present day, July 4th has been celebrated as the birth of American independence, with festivities ranging from fireworks, parades and concerts to more casual family gatherings and barbecues.

However, Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration honoring the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, nearly a century later, Union General Gordon Granger led thousands of federal troops to Galveston, Texas to announce that the Civil War had ended, and slaves had been freed.

So, in honor of both holidays I am remixing the S'more to be inclusive of ALL Americans. I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as my little family did.
