"My Dream Stay-cation"
I’ve been seeing so many great post on Staycations and I want to go so bad, I’m having major FOMO, but not sure if I’m quite ready or up to it yet. So instead I decided to make a list of places to go once I am ready. In the meantime I'm going to sit right here with no place to go and sip this champagne, and play with these kids in the pool (maybe not all at the same time though, that could be dangerous). See below my top 6 places in Texas I would love to do a staycation and why. Texas has everything from countryside, to city, to sea so you can pick your fav. Once again, be safe and make sure that there are special safety measures in place for where you choose to stay.
My Top 6 Places in Texas I would love to do a Staycation & Why
Hopefully I will get to use this list soon.
La Cantera - San Antonio, TX
This resort is so serene and peaceful. If you've never been to San Antonio you have to go, there's a reason they call it Hill Country and you need to experience it. Especially being that most of Texas is so flat. If you're getting away but not lucky enough to leave the kids behind, don't worry there is a supervised kids club and arcade for the kids along with slides in the family pool area to keep your kids busy while you're off relaxing. And don't worry about packing all of the excess baggage for the baby because you can arrange for most of the necessities to keep you and baby feeling like at home.
The Preserve - Elephant Sanctuary - Fredericksburg, TX
I had never heard of this place until recently and apparently there's about 10 of these safaris out here throughout the state. I guess having kids has expanded my knowledge of things to do in Texas. I'm super excited to go to this place to see the elephants up close and personal in an intimate experience feeding them and bathing them. If you happen to decide you want to go you should check their calendar and plan far in advance this place sells out fast and it has to be pre-booked. Other places to check out if this is not your thing is the San Antonio Aquarium and San Antonio Zoo.
Loma de Vida Spa and Wellness - San Antonio, TX
I can't tell you all how much I LOVE wellness spas. I try to make sure that when I travel I go spa-ing. Of course it doesn't always work out this way but this is my thing. I love the the stillness being at a spa, the dry saunas are AMAZING and I'm a deep tissue and aroma therapy kind of gal. I believe a good massage can do your mind, body and soul wonders. Massage therapy has so many health benefits. So don't feel bad for treating yourself. A good spa will have relaxation and rejuvenation areas, a dry sauna and if your'e lucky a nice wet sauna and hot tub too. This place has it all and more. Guests can take advantage of an outdoor heated infinity edge pool and Jacuzzi, fitness center and movement classes, herbal steam rooms, Himalayan salt saunas and an indoor saline vitality pool. This place is a must!
Hilton Anatole - Dallas, TX
This hotel has really good measures in place to help you feel safe and comfortable during this time. They've put new cleaning procedures in place with a Lysol protection program and a more lenient cancellation policy. But best of all with this hotel is it's proximity to me, so no driving for this gal and the resort style family friendly pool is EVERYTHING! There are cabanas for rent, a lazy river, a splash pad area for the kiddos, leisure pool (adults only), water slides, and a swim up bar to make you truly feel like you are on a vacation off on an island.
The Verandah Spa - This place is oozing with relaxation, great for a girls relaxation day or just a day to yourself for self-care.
Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament- Dallas, TX
This will be the place we will wrap up for the evening for dinner and entertainment. This is a treat for both the adults and kids alike with lots of excitement and fun.
Great Wolf Lodge - Grapevine, TX
How can I leave the kiddos out. This Indoor Water park wonderland for kids is AMAZING and pure fun. It’s like a indoor kiddy glamping adventure. This is basically an all inclusive kids dream with the water park, hotel stay, gym, candy shop, restaurants and they've added so much more since we last visited.
Yurttopia - Wimberly, TX
This is my, if I had no kids away-cation. With my kids being so young, for me I'd rather have them in more versatile digs with lots more to do (basically a tv and kiddy pool area). But for me, I would love to do something like this with me and my babe. This is a place to escape the rest of the world. I'd love to stay here and soak in the hot tub or plunge pool, then maybe go rowing in a canoe and finish the first night roasting marshmallows. Then maybe day 2 check out one of the local wineries to drink all of my troubles away and end the evening on one of the rooftop decks star gazing. Or maybe take a tour of the Deep Eddy Vodka Distillery and then retreat to a hammock while dreaming of our forever together with the 360 Hill Country views. Now this is a real adult glamping vacay adventure.
The Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort & Spa - Lost Pines, TX near Austin
This place is an all in one grand slam. It has it all. Peace and quiet, kid and adult fun and activities. Do you want to float on a lazy river or something a little more extreme like a two-story water slide or maybe you're on your own and don't want to be bothered with kids. They have that too with an adult only pool area with private cabanas and all. What if you're more of a nature person? You can arrange for zip lining, horseback riding, a hiking tour, archery, rock climbing and much more. What about something more peaceful to wrap up your whole weekend and relax? There's a beautiful golf course and spa available for your pleasure. This one, wraps it all up. It has everything you're looking for.
The San Luis Resort Spa and Conference Center - Galveston, TX
I've had my eye on this resort for a while since I booked massages here for a girls trip. The massages got cancelled for whatever reason but I've still kept this place in my mind. If you want to feel like you're on a vacation without going too far Galveston could be your stop. I know, I know the water is not that crystal clear blue (and I am a water snob) but the bare necessities of a vacation is here. And this hotel will not disappoint. The San Luis hotel has been taken over by the Landry franchise. And if you don't know who that is he's the owner of the Houston Rockets (2017), Golden Nugget Casinos, Bubba Gump Shrimp and a host of other restaurants, and he's got the show Billion Dollar Buyer. So he has some pretty successful and nice businesses that are running smoothly. This hotel also has a resort style pool with cabanas, a relaxing spa, a few restaurant options, and chic newly renovated rooms. Attractions close is Moody Gardens, Pleasure Pier, Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark, and one of my favorite restaurants Willie G's.
Also, as I mentioned in a previous post if you're just looking to do a day-cation or the budget doesn't allow for a weekend getaway, check out Resort Pass to see what hotels in the area you're visiting offers resort day passes. You'd be surprised. Check out my other blog post on
